The creation of a countywide library district was the subject of two work sessions with the County Board of Supervisors and Parker and Quartzsite Mayors and Town Councils in November. The discussions were motivated by a concern for how to continue funding the county's libraries when general revenues are shrinking.

La Paz County's libraries are among the most heavily used for their size in the United States, and while revenues are declining, library usage is increasing.

Parker Library Director Dale Savage said, "In tough economic times, our libraries become especially important for many people to connect with the resources they need."
